How to repair a broken buckle of the hip belt.

What you need

    • To determine the correct buckle size, measure the webbing with a measuring tape. For example, if the webbing has a width of 25 mm, you will also need a buckle that matches this size.

    • Carefully unpick the seam on the webbing using the tool of your choice.

    • Here: Unpicking with a seam ripper.

    • Remove the thread remnants.

    • Thread the new buckle onto the webbing.

    • Fold the end of the webbing over before sewing it in place.

    • Sew along the folded edge of the webbing.

    • As shown in the video, sew back and forth at least twice.

    • Briefly burn the end of the webbing to prevent it from fraying later. Lightly press the melted edge with a non-flammable object (e.g., with pliers).

    • Caution: Direct contact with the flame or overheated material can cause burns to the skin.

    • Always keep the lighter moving and do not hold it in one place for too long to avoid overheating, burning, or excessive melting of the material. Move the lighter parallel to the edge of the material.

    • See: Additional safety instructions for burning fabric edges.
